Obtain a hand that totals 31 in cards of one suit — or have a hand at showdown whose count in one suit is higher than that of at least one other player.
One standard 52-card deck. Each player receives 3 chips. Deal three cards to each player. Place the remaining deck face-down in the center as the stock. Turn up the first card and place it beside the stock to form the discard pile.
The player to the left of the dealer goes first. On each turn a player may draw the top card of the discard pile or draw the unknown top card of the stock. The player then discards one card face-up to the discard pile, keeping their hand at three cards. Play continues clockwise.
When satisfied with their hand, a player may knock on the table instead of drawing. This triggers the final round — each other player takes one more turn to finalize their hand. When play returns to the knocker, all hands are revealed.
The player with the lowest point value puts a chip into the pot. In case of a tie for lowest, all tied players put in a chip. The knocker must beat at least one other player — if the knocker ties for lowest, only the knocker puts in a chip.
Play continues until only one player has chips remaining. That player wins the pot.
